Shabana Azmi, the veteran actress known for her National Award winning roles in Ankur, Arth, Khandar, Paar and Godmother, plays the role of her aunt, Satya Maasi. Satyadeep Mishra plays the role of Darshan and Sanjeeda Sheikh, a brilliant TV actress, plays the character of Priya.

On the surface, Kaali Khuhi seems to be a compelling story with the protagonist being a ten year old girl, Shivangi, fighting against society evil. Punjab being the geographical backdrop is inevitably going to show its magic like it did in the multi cast movies, Udta Punjab. The social issue of female security and safety seems to be the main focus but what I can read between the lines is that the movie has the potential to touch the sensitive topic of male insecurity and ego issue. This feature film will widely bring into focus the inability of humans to see moral right and wrong and the stubborn streak of being close minded.
Men are responsible for this cultural conditioning and stigma that a girl child is bad for the family but women also play some part in this. Counting on the strong acting abilities of Shabana Azmi and Satyadeep Mishra, let’s see what the debutant director Terrie Samunder brings to the table.
